Massage Therapy and STRESS & FATIGUE

Do you wake feeling restless, tired, fatigued, and drained? There can be many reasons for not being able to sleep well; lack of exercise, improper diet, lack of sleep, sleep apnea. However, one of the most common reasons for lack of restful sleep is STRESS.

Emotional and physical stress on the body is a response to varying degrees of pain and worry in the client’s environment. The source may be from work or family, social or financial. Regardless of the source, stress can have a detrimental affect on a person’s well-being and overall life. Stress can lead to emotional changes such as anxiety, depression and fear, lowering one’s self-esteem, cause an intake of harmful stimulants such as caffeine or pain killers, or may even effect your body’s physiology, supressing the immune system and making the body susceptable to viruses and long-term health conditions.

Massage Therapy at PHYSIOMED Don Mills can help alleviate the effects of stress and fatigue by placing the client’s mind and body at ease. The main purpose of Massage Therapy is to assist the body into a state of tranquility and balance. The parasympathetic nervous system (the restorative/repair cycle) is highly promoted during the Massage Therapy session, which counteracts the opposite sympathetic nervous system (fight-or-flight response system). Through light or moderate pressure muscle work, and with proper breathing techniques, the mind and body is placed at ease. Soothing music and quiet ambiance during your Massage Therapy session will allow your mind to go blank and allow yourself to fall into a deeper restful state. The majority of client’s respond by saying that they have the most restful sleep the night after a Massage Therapy session.

Sometimes as little as one Massage Therapy session is required to help the body reset itself. However, we recommend that you make Massage Therapy into a regular maintanance program. It’s recommended to have a massage every 3 to 5 weeks for full benefits. However, regardless of your schedule, let the Registered Massage Therapists at PHYSIOMED Don Mills assist you in finding a balance in your stress levels.
